Cœur de pirate is Béatrice Martin, a young woman who has played the piano since she was 3. She is inspired by the music she grew up to (French and folk music). With only 4 shows on her tour book and little help from myspace, she quickly signed with Grosse Boîte (Dare To Care) and her first album was released in September 2008. Acclaimed by critics (including superstar blogger Perez Hilton), she sold over 300,000 copies around the world.
She won a Felix for “Newcomer of the Year” at ADISQ 2009, been nominated for a Juno and long-listed for the Polaris Prize in 2009. In March 2010, she won the prestigious original song of the year “Victoire de la musique” in France.
Her music has been featured in several commercials (Canada and Europe), as well as independent productions and popular Quebecois TV shows. She was also one of the voices for the Coca-Cola Open Happiness campaign for the 2010 Olympics.
