Beast is the union of two remarkable and eclectic artists, vocalist and songwriter Betty Bonifassi (Triplettes of Belleville / DJ Champion) and composer, percussionist, producer Jean–Phi Goncalves (Lauryn Hill, Ariane Moffat, Pierre Lapointe, Plaster). This trip-rock collaboration was born in a spirit of sonic adventure that has since produced wild critical acclaim, near gold sales in Canada, releases in the U.S. and Europe, a “Best New Group” Juno nomination and Grammy and Juno nominations for the stunning “Mr Hurricane” video.

Beast's debut album is a fantastically vivid combination of heavy hip-hop beats, spaghetti-western riffs and atmospheres, low-riding funk, Latinate rhythms and operatic effusions. It's the kind of music you might expect to hear in the last cabaret on the road to hell, where dancing is the final refuge and a catchy tune is the devil's mercy.
